Personality
Personality
Sugoroku is cheerful, knowledgeable and deeply enthusiastic about games. He treats gaming as more than entertainment, believing that games can reveal character, reward courage and create meaningful bonds between people.
He is proud of Yugi and encourages his grandson's passion rather than dismissing it. Although often used for lighter moments, Sugoroku can become serious when ancient games, the Millennium Items or dangerous challenges are involved.
Age has done little to diminish his adventurous streak. Sugoroku retains the confidence of someone who spent his youth traveling to remote locations in search of rare games and archaeological mysteries.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Sugoroku is an experienced gamer with extensive knowledge of Duel Monsters and numerous other games. He teaches Jonouchi how to play Duel Monsters and owns a valuable collection of cards through Kame Game.
His most famous card is Blue-Eyes White Dragon, one of the exceptionally rare copies sought by Kaiba. Sugoroku refuses to trade it because its sentimental value matters more to him than its rarity.
He is also an accomplished explorer. In his younger years, Sugoroku navigated the dangerous tomb containing the Millennium Puzzle, overcoming traps and challenges that had defeated previous explorers.
Story Role

Sugoroku introduces the Millennium Puzzle into Yugi's life by giving his grandson the unsolved artifact. The Puzzle becomes the catalyst for the supernatural events that follow Yugi throughout the series.
His ownership of Blue-Eyes White Dragon brings him into conflict with Kaiba, who wants every surviving copy of the card. This incident helps establish both Kaiba's obsession with Blue-Eyes and Yugi's determination to defend the people close to him.
Sugoroku's past later becomes important to the history of the Millennium Puzzle. As a younger man, he entered the Tomb of the Nameless Pharaoh and survived its deadly challenges, eventually escaping with the Puzzle that he would later give to Yugi.
