Sougyo no Kotowari

The twins are cheerful, energetic and constantly inclined to play. They often hold hands and treat serious situations like games, making them difficult for Ukitake to discipline.

After Muramasa’s influence is removed, they become more obedient but remain affectionate and demanding of Ukitake’s attention. Their behavior resembles that of excitable younger brothers or children toward a patient guardian.

Sōgyo no Kotowari’s Shikai divides into two three-pronged blades connected by a red cord fitted with five rectangular charms. One sword absorbs an energy attack, while the charms adjust its speed and power before the second sword releases it.

The modifications make the returned attack difficult to anticipate, and repeated redirection can overwhelm an opponent accustomed to the original projectile. The ability is designed for energy rather than ordinary physical blows.

No Bankai has been revealed.

Ukitake reveals Sōgyo no Kotowari beside Shunsui Kyōraku when the two captains confront Yamamoto over Rukia’s execution. He later uses its redirection ability against Coyote Starrk.

In the anime rebellion, Muramasa manifests the twins and separates them from Ukitake. Their motives are never presented as genuine hatred; after being restored, they immediately return to their playful attachment to him.

Jūshirō Ukitake is the twins’ wielder and indulgent guardian. Shunsui Kyōraku is Ukitake’s closest friend and fights alongside Sōgyo no Kotowari.

Muramasa separates the twins from their master. Coyote Starrk is the principal opponent against whom their canonical redirection ability is demonstrated.
