Personality
Personality
Murao is experienced, observant and grounded. He understands competitive karuta well enough to recognize extraordinary ability without romanticizing the pressure surrounding it.
He treats Arata as a younger fellow player rather than simply as the grandson of a famous Meijin. That familiarity makes him part of the stable Fukui environment in which Arata can compete without constantly having his background explained to him.
Murao also takes the competitive side of the game seriously. His supportive role does not mean he lacks ambitions of his own, and his Class A standing reflects years spent developing within the Nagumo Society.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Murao is a Class A competitive karuta player, placing him among the advanced competitors eligible for the highest-level open tournaments and Meijin qualifying path.
His experience gives him a strong understanding of match strategy and tournament conditions. Although the story does not define him through a single extraordinary sense or named technique, he possesses the broad technical foundation expected of a veteran Class A player.
His role within Nagumo also allows him to practice with and evaluate Arata, whose unusual level makes ordinary training partners difficult to find.
Story Role
Story Role
Murao appears as part of the Fukui karuta community surrounding Arata. When the story moves beyond Tokyo and begins showing Arata's competitive environment in greater detail, Murao helps establish that Arata has experienced players around him rather than developing in isolation.
He participates in high-level competition and follows Arata's pursuit of the Meijin path. His presence also connects the younger generation to the regional society structure that supports adult and student players alike.
As Arata moves closer to the strongest competitors in Japan, Murao remains one of the familiar players from Nagumo who understands both his ability and the personal history behind his ambitions.
