Senketsu

Senketsu is calm, thoughtful, protective, and considerably more cautious than Ryuuko. His temperament creates a useful contrast with her tendency to respond to provocation by immediately fighting. He often analyzes their opponents while Ryuuko concentrates on the battle itself.

He possesses a strong sense of personal dignity despite literally being clothing. Senketsu objects when others treat him merely as an object and gradually develops his own preferences, concerns, and emotional attachments.

His relationship with Ryuuko is based on cooperation. Senketsu cannot achieve his greatest effectiveness simply by overpowering his wearer; Ryuuko must accept him, while he must respond to her will. Their synchronization therefore depends as much on mutual trust as on physical compatibility.

Senketsu is a Kamui, a garment composed primarily of Life Fibers. By consuming Ryuuko's blood, he transforms and dramatically increases her physical abilities, including strength, speed, durability, and regenerative performance.

Their standard synchronization produces Senketsu's combat transformation. As Senketsu absorbs Life Fibers from destroyed Goku Uniforms, he develops specialized forms and abilities. Senketsu Senjin generates numerous blades across his surface, while Senketsu Shippuu gives Ryuuko effective flight capability.

Senketsu can alter his shape, communicate with Ryuuko, analyze other Life Fiber garments, and protect his wearer from extreme physical damage. His unusual compatibility with Ryuuko stems from the circumstances of his creation: Isshin made Senketsu using Ryuuko's DNA, giving him a biological connection to her that ordinary Kamui do not possess.

During the final battle, Senketsu incorporates the Life Fibers provided by Ryuuko's allies and becomes Senketsu Kisaragi, enabling her to confront Ragyou in space.

Ryuuko discovers Senketsu after an early defeat at Honnouji Academy. He forcibly takes some of her blood and transforms, giving her enough power to challenge opponents wearing Goku Uniforms.

Their first battles are limited by Ryuuko's embarrassment over Senketsu's revealing transformed appearance. Mako Mankanshoku's intervention helps Ryuuko recognize that worrying about how she looks prevents her from accepting Senketsu fully, leading to their first true synchronization.

Senketsu subsequently becomes inseparable from Ryuuko's investigation. Aikurou Mikisugi explains more about Kamui and Life Fibers, while Senketsu absorbs material from defeated Goku Uniforms and develops new abilities.

Senketsu is eventually revealed to have been created by Isshin specifically as a weapon against Life Fibers. His construction incorporates Ryuuko's DNA, and his partial human characteristics help explain why Ryuuko can hear him when most people cannot.

After Ryuuko defeats Ragyou, the strain of absorbing and using enormous quantities of Life Fibers causes Senketsu to disintegrate during their return to Earth. He uses his remaining strength to protect Ryuuko from the fall before disappearing completely.

Ryuuko Matoi is Senketsu's wearer, partner, and closest friend. Their relationship begins awkwardly but develops into complete mutual trust. Senketsu was created using Ryuuko's DNA, giving their compatibility a biological foundation, and his final act is sacrificing what remains of himself to bring her safely home.

Mako Mankanshoku becomes one of Senketsu's trusted allies because of her ability to support Ryuuko emotionally. Senketsu recognizes that Mako Mankanshoku can sometimes reach Ryuuko when he cannot.

Isshin Matoi is Senketsu's creator. Isshin designed him as part of his resistance to the Life Fibers and incorporated material connected to Ryuuko into his construction.

Satsuki Kiryuuin initially opposes Senketsu and Ryuuko using the Kamui Junketsu. Their contrasting relationships with their Kamui demonstrate the difference between synchronization and domination.

Junketsu is another Kamui and Senketsu's counterpart in many of Ryuuko's battles against Satsuki. Unlike Senketsu, Junketsu does not form the same conversational, cooperative bond with its wearer.

Tsumugu Kinagase initially views Senketsu as a dangerous Life Fiber organism that must be destroyed, placing him in direct conflict with Ryuuko before he understands their partnership.
