Senbonzakura

Senbonzakura is proud, formal and generally uninterested in casual conversation. He frequently ignores the other spirits and belittles opponents who fail to impress him.

Unlike Byakuya, he is easily provoked by humiliation and sometimes responds with emotional outbursts. His apparent cruelty during the rebellion conceals loyalty to his wielder and commitment to the Kuchiki family’s honor.

In Shikai, Senbonzakura’s blade separates into a thousand small fragments that reflect light like drifting cherry blossoms. Byakuya controls the swarm through gestures, using it to surround, cut and pursue opponents from several directions.

Senbonzakura Kageyoshi summons rows of enormous blades that dissolve into vastly more fragments. Its forms include Senkei, which surrounds the opponent with swords; Gōkei, which attacks from every direction inside a spherical formation; and Shūkei: Hakuteiken, which concentrates the Bankai into a single white blade and wings.

The manifested spirit can reproduce these abilities independently and fights with speed and swordsmanship resembling Byakuya’s.

Byakuya uses Senbonzakura throughout the Soul Society conflict and in later battles against the Espada and Wandenreich. Its flexible range makes it effective against both individuals and large groups.

During the anime rebellion, Senbonzakura appears to support Muramasa and tests Byakuya’s supposed allegiance by demanding that he defeat Sode no Shirayuki. Byakuya had already broken Muramasa’s control, and Senbonzakura was secretly helping him infiltrate the rebellion and reach Kōga Kuchiki.

Byakuya Kuchiki is Senbonzakura’s wielder. Their reserved manner, pride and dedication to Kuchiki honor make them unusually similar.

Sode no Shirayuki receives protective concern from Senbonzakura, echoing Byakuya Kuchiki’s care for Rukia Kuchiki. Zabimaru is a frequent rival, while Muramasa initially believes Senbonzakura is his ally.
