Sachiko Yagami

Sachiko is caring, supportive and strongly devoted to her family. She takes obvious pride in Light's academic success and responds warmly to both of her children.

Unlike Soichiro, she has no direct role in police work and therefore experiences the Kira investigation primarily through its effects on her household. Her husband's long absences and the danger attached to his work become continuing sources of worry.

Sachiko also demonstrates considerable emotional endurance. The Yagami family is subjected to repeated crises as the investigation progresses, yet she continues supporting her husband and children without access to much of the confidential information that explains what is happening.

Sachiko has no supernatural powers and does not participate in the Kira investigation. She never uses a Death Note and has no established investigative or combat training.

Her role is domestic, establishing the ordinary family environment in which Light lives while secretly acting as Kira. This contrast makes the Yagami home an important setting during the opening stages of the story.

Sachiko appears from the beginning of the series as Light and Sayu's mother. She celebrates Light's exceptional academic performance and interacts with him as a dependable, successful son, unaware that he has begun using the Death Note.

As Soichiro becomes increasingly consumed by the Kira case, Sachiko is left to manage the household while worrying about his safety. The danger eventually reaches the family more directly.

When Sayu is kidnapped by Mello's organization, Sachiko experiences the crisis without being able to participate in the secret negotiations over the Death Note. Sayu is eventually returned but suffers severe psychological trauma.

Sachiko later also loses Soichiro following the Task Force's operation against Mello's organization, while remaining unaware of Light's identity as Kira.

Soichiro Yagami is Sachiko's husband. His dedication to the Kira investigation repeatedly keeps him away from home and places him in danger, but she remains devoted to him.

Light Yagami is Sachiko's son. She is proud of his intelligence and academic achievements and remains unaware of his identity as Kira.

Sayu Yagami is Sachiko's daughter. Sachiko supports her following the trauma caused by Sayu's kidnapping.
