Ruri Gachi

Ruri is creative, earnest and highly invested in manga. She wants her work to improve and can become frustrated when her ability does not match the standard she is trying to reach.

Unlike her physically imposing older brother, Ruri's major interest is artistic. She spends substantial time drawing and is willing to seek feedback, even when criticism can be difficult to hear.

Her determination becomes especially apparent when she struggles creatively. Rather than abandoning manga altogether, Ruri continues working through slumps and learning about the practical side of producing comics.

Ruri has no supernatural powers. Her defining skill is drawing manga, and she demonstrates enough dedication to produce manuscripts and pursue recognition for her work.

Her developing abilities include visual storytelling, drawing and working through the structure of a manga submission. Because Me & Roboco runs in Weekly Shonen Jump, Ruri's stories frequently provide a direct route for jokes about manga awards, editors, assistants and serialized production.

Ruri is introduced through her connection to Gachi but quickly receives stories independent of her brother. Bondo discovers her manga ambitions and becomes involved because of his extensive enthusiasm for Shonen Jump.

One of her early goals involves the Tezuka Award, connecting her fictional aspirations directly to the real manga industry's submission system. Subsequent appearances revisit her development as an artist rather than treating the hobby as a one-off joke.

Ruri's chapters allow the series to turn its parody inward. Instead of spoofing only famous manga, the story uses her experiences to joke about the process by which manga is written, drawn, submitted and evaluated.

Gorilla Gachi is Ruri's older brother. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is a supportive sibling who takes her interests seriously.

Bondo Taira becomes involved in Ruri's manga work because of his extensive knowledge of Weekly Shonen Jump. His enthusiasm makes him a natural audience for her manuscripts.

Roboco regularly enters Ruri's orbit through Bondo and Gachi, bringing her usual exaggerated behavior into stories about manga creation.
