Ritta Kanade

Ritta behaves like an ordinary younger brother approaching adolescence. He can be embarrassed around attractive girls and is particularly flustered by Matsuri's female appearance.

His crush is uncomplicated by knowledge of the supernatural truth. From Ritta's perspective, the girl he meets is attractive and close to his family, leaving him unaware of why Matsuri reacts awkwardly to his attention.

Ritta is otherwise presented as a normal child rather than a participant in the exorcist world. He does not share Suzu's unusual spiritual position and spends most of his life within the ordinary family environment surrounding Melody Bell.

Ritta has no established supernatural powers, exorcist-ninja training or specialized combat abilities. He is an ordinary human child.

His role therefore differs sharply from Suzu's. Although the siblings belong to the same family, Suzu's extraordinary life energy as an Ayakashi Medium is not established as a power Ritta shares.

Because he cannot participate directly in supernatural battles, Ritta primarily contributes to the family and romantic-comedy side of the story.

Ritta is introduced through the Kanade household and Melody Bell, giving the series a clearer picture of Suzu's family life away from school and ayakashi incidents.

His encounters with Matsuri become awkward because he does not know that the girl before him is the same Matsuri who originally lived as a boy. The resulting crush adds another everyday complication to Matsuri's attempt to function publicly in his transformed body.

Ritta remains unaware for much of the story that Matsuri's sex was changed by Shirogane's Gender Swap Awakening. His attraction therefore develops from the identity Matsuri presents publicly rather than from knowledge of the exorcist's original body.

Suzu Kanade is Ritta's older sister. They live together as part of the Kanade household, whose parents operate Melody Bell.

Matsuri Kazamaki is Suzu's childhood friend and someone Ritta knew before the main events. Because Ritta does not initially understand Matsuri's transformation, he develops a crush on Matsuri's female form.

Mr. Kanade is Ritta's father and one of the owners of Melody Bell.

Mrs. Kanade is Ritta's mother and runs Melody Bell with her husband.

Shirogane is responsible for the supernatural transformation that creates Ritta's misunderstanding about Matsuri, although Ritta is not initially aware of the truth behind it.
