Reo no Chichi

Reo's father is practical, strict and deeply skeptical of professional football as a career for his son. He believes Reo's privileged position gives him access to a far more secure route through elite education and eventually the family business.

His objections are not portrayed as simple ignorance of Reo's talent. He understands that professional sport is brutally selective and argues that only people effectively chosen by football can reliably build a livelihood from it.

That resistance has the opposite effect from what he intends. Reo is accustomed to obtaining whatever he wants, so having his father tell him that the World Cup is unrealistic makes football more attractive as something he must earn himself.

Reo's father is not established as a football player and possesses no canonical footballing techniques.

His influence comes from wealth and institutional power. The Mikage family controls enormous financial resources, giving him the ability to shape Reo's education and provide opportunities unavailable to ordinary students.

He also has enough influence to arrange a football match intended to test Reo's commitment, creating an obstacle that Reo and Seishirou Nagi must overcome through their own ability.

Reo's father appears in Reo's background as the principal source of resistance to his World Cup ambition. He expects his son to graduate from an elite school, enter an elite university and eventually become a businessman capable of inheriting the family's corporate responsibilities.

His refusal helps define why football matters so strongly to Reo. The World Cup becomes the first major objective that cannot simply be purchased or handed to him through his family's resources.

The expanded Episode Nagi material develops this conflict further by showing Reo attempting to prove that his newly formed partnership with Nagi is more than a temporary obsession.

Reo Mikage is his son and intended successor. He wants Reo Mikage to pursue an elite business career rather than professional football, while Reo becomes increasingly determined to prove that his own chosen dream is achievable.

Seishirou Nagi becomes important to the conflict because his extraordinary natural talent gives Reo Mikage the partner he believes can help him reach the World Cup.

Reo no Haha is Reo's mother and shares the family's expectation that their son should follow a conventional elite path.
