Personality
Personality
Regro is kind, protective and deeply devoted to Mash Burnedead. He can be anxious and reacts loudly to Mash's bizarre behavior, but those comedic outbursts sit alongside genuine parental concern.
His own history makes him particularly sensitive to the cruelty of a society that judges human worth through magical ability. Regro spent much of his younger life being called worthless because his magic was weak, leaving him able to understand the danger an entirely magicless child would face.
He is also openly emotional about Mash's development. Learning that Mash has formed genuine friendships at Easton moves Regro deeply because the isolated upbringing necessary to keep Mash safe had prevented him from experiencing an ordinary childhood.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Regro is a single-line mage with relatively weak magical power. He can perform basic magic such as levitating small objects, but he was considered deficient by the standards of the Magic Realm.
His greatest contribution to Mash's abilities is not magical. Knowing that Mash could never rely on spells, Regro raised him through intensive physical training so that he would be capable of protecting himself if his lack of magic were ever discovered.
Regro owns a wand and lends it to Mash during the confrontation with Brad Coleman, but he is not established as a combat specialist.
Story Role
Story Role
Regro's decision to raise Mash creates the foundation of the story. He finds an abandoned, unmarked infant and recognizes that the child will be persecuted in the same society that treated Regro as inadequate for possessing weak magic.
He raises Mash secretly in the forest and forbids him from entering populated areas. Their isolation ends when Mash visits town for cream puffs and attracts the attention of the Magic Police.
Brad tracks Mash home and threatens Regro while investigating the magicless boy. Mash returns and defeats the officers, after which Brad proposes that Mash attend Easton and become a Divine Visionary. Regro objects to the danger, but Mash accepts because success would allow the two of them to live together peacefully.
Relationships
Relationships
Mash Burnedead is Regro's adopted son. Regro finds him as an abandoned infant, raises him alone and trains him physically so that he can survive in a society hostile to people without magic.
Brad Coleman initially threatens Regro while investigating Mash. Their relationship later becomes much friendlier, with Brad visiting the Burnedead home and spending leisure time with Regro.
Terry accompanies Brad Coleman during the Magic Police investigation that ends Regro and Mash's secluded life.
