Pometarou

Pometarou is affectionate, cheerful and naturally endearing. His behavior immediately undermines Makoto Hanzawa's original plan to select a pet according to its usefulness as a criminal accomplice. Rather than choosing the strongest or most intimidating dog available, Hanzawa becomes attached to the tiny Pomeranian.

His harmlessness also provides a contrast with Beika Town's exaggerated reputation for murders, crimes and dangerous residents. Pometarou is treated as a source of uncomplicated comfort in a setting where Hanzawa approaches almost everything else with suspicion or anxiety.

Pometarou is an ordinary Pomeranian and has no supernatural abilities or specialized combat training. Hanzawa initially wants a dog intelligent and powerful enough to serve as a "murder partner," but Pometarou is selected because Hanzawa cannot resist him rather than because he meets those requirements.

He nevertheless proves valuable as a companion. His affectionate temperament has an immediate calming effect on Hanzawa, making his emotional role considerably more important than any practical use he might have had in Hanzawa's schemes.

Pometarou enters the story when Makoto Hanzawa decides that a dog would make an ideal partner for his intended crime. Hanzawa visits a pet shop with a much more imposing animal in mind but encounters Pometarou and immediately falls for him.

After being adopted, Pometarou becomes Hanzawa's pet and recurring companion. His presence expands Hanzawa's increasingly ordinary life in Beika, contrasting with the murderous objective that originally brought his owner to the city.

Pometarou continues appearing alongside Hanzawa and the residents of Beika throughout the spin-off, functioning primarily as a beloved household companion rather than an accomplice in crime.

Makoto Hanzawa is Pometarou's owner. Hanzawa initially wants a formidable dog to assist with murder but immediately becomes attached to Pometarou instead, treating him with genuine affection after bringing him home.

Watson is Saguru Hakuba's pet hawk and another prominent animal appearing in The Culprit Hanzawa. The contrast between the imposing bird of prey and tiny Pometarou contributes to the spin-off's animal-centered comedy.
