Personality
Personality
Otohime is proud, commanding and intensely conscious of her appearance. Her long life has left her terrified of growing old and of being rejected because her youthful beauty has disappeared. She increasingly treats beauty as something that determines a person's worth, projecting her own insecurity onto everyone around her.
Her behavior contrasts sharply with the affection she once showed Urashima. That relationship demonstrates that she was capable of genuine tenderness before loneliness and the passage of centuries distorted her outlook.
Otohime is also theatrical and imperious, befitting the ruler of an extravagant palace. Yet much of that grandeur conceals a woman unable to accept the possibility that someone she loved could remember her fondly after her appearance changed.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Otohime possesses the resources and technology of Ryuugujou. Her most dangerous weapon is the Tamatebako G, which releases a gas capable of rapidly aging those exposed to it. She intends to employ this technology on an enormous scale.
She commands the Dragon Palace's soldiers and has access to advanced Amanto machinery, giving her power far beyond her individual physical abilities.
Although formidable because of her position and technology, Otohime's primary threat comes from controlling Ryuugujou itself rather than from exceptional hand-to-hand combat.
Story Role
Story Role
Otohime's history begins when Urashima rescues one of her subjects and is brought to the Dragon Palace. She falls in love with him, but their difference in lifespan means that the relationship cannot remain unchanged forever.
Centuries later, Kamenashi secretly recruits Sakata Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi, Kagura, Tae Shimura, Kyuubei Yagyuu, Kotarou Katsura and Taizou Hasegawa as potential opposition to Otohime's plans.
Otohime intends to spread the Tamatebako G's aging effect across Earth, effectively forcing humanity to share the ugliness and decay she believes have made her unlovable.
The confrontation ultimately forces Otohime to face the truth that Urashima never reduced their relationship to her physical appearance. His enduring feelings undermine the belief that has driven her obsession for centuries.
Relationships
Relationships
Urashima is the Earthling with whom Otohime fell in love after he rescued one of her subjects. His memory becomes the emotional foundation of her story.
Kamenashi is captain of the Dragon Palace Imperial Guards. He turns against Otohime's plan for Earth and seeks outside fighters capable of stopping her.
Sakata Gintoki, Kagura, Shimura Shinpachi, Tae Shimura, Kyuubei Yagyuu, Kotarou Katsura and Taizou Hasegawa become Otohime's principal opponents during the Dragon Palace incident.
