Nishi no Kaiou

Nishi no Kaiou is arrogant, competitive, sarcastic, and an extremely poor loser. He regularly mocks North Kai, particularly over his death and the quality of the fighters representing the northern quadrant.

His rivalry becomes especially intense when North Kai introduces Goku. West Kai responds by promoting Pikkon as proof that his own quadrant produces the superior martial artists.

He is nevertheless capable of recognizing extraordinary ability. Once Goku and Pikkon demonstrate how far beyond the other tournament competitors they are, West Kai accepts that both fighters belong in a different class.

West Kai is a divine being with the supernatural abilities associated with the Kai hierarchy, although he is not shown personally engaging in serious combat.

His most important demonstrated role is as a martial-arts teacher. Pikkon is his greatest pupil, and expanded material associates West Kai with techniques used by Pikkon, including the Thunder Flash Attack.

As one of Universe 7's four directional Kais, he oversees the western portion of the living universe beneath Dai Kaiou. The four directional Kais and their supervisory structure are established in anime continuity.

West Kai attends the Other World Tournament on Grand Kai's Planet with fighters from the western quadrant.

He immediately renews his rivalry with North Kai and is confident that Pikkon will dominate the tournament. The pair even make a wager over whether Goku or Pikkon will prove superior.

Pikkon defeats several major opponents and eventually meets Goku in the final. Their match ends with both fighters being disqualified because each touched the arena ceiling, leaving neither West Kai nor North Kai with an undisputed tournament victory.

West Kai later appears during anime-only Other World material and briefly during Dragon Ball GT.

North Kai is Nishi no Kaiou's principal rival among the directional Kais.

Pikkon is West Kai's strongest and most prominent student.

Goku becomes the fighter representing North Kai in the Other World Tournament and the opponent who challenges Pikkon's dominance.

Dai Kaiou is the superior deity who oversees West Kai and the other directional Kais.
