Moroyasu Kouno

Moroyasu is expressive, outspoken and violent. He displays his emotions far more openly than Moronao and is less inclined to hide his thoughts behind formal restraint.

He enjoys battle and possesses a ruthless streak appropriate to the brutal conflicts in which the Ashikaga operate. His habitual smile can make his violence appear almost casual, reinforcing the contrast between his cheerful expression and his actions.

Despite their personality differences, Moroyasu and Moronao share a pragmatic view of power. Moroyasu is comfortable challenging traditional assumptions about who deserves authority when battlefield strength increasingly determines political reality.

Moroyasu is an exceptionally powerful warrior who specializes in long weapons. He fights with a large naginata and can use its reach and weight to tear through opposing soldiers.

He is also experienced in the broader martial skills expected of an elite medieval warrior, including horsemanship and conventional weapons training. His physical aggression makes him especially suited to breaking enemy formations once battle becomes close and chaotic.

Moroyasu is not merely an individual fighter. He operates as a commander within the Ashikaga military and can lead troops through large-scale campaigns.

Moroyasu is present among the Ashikaga forces as Takauji turns against the Kamakura shogunate and helps establish the military power that follows. His early appearances place him alongside Moronao and other warriors participating in the destruction of the old regime.

As Ashikaga power grows, Moroyasu becomes more prominent as a commander in his own right. His battlefield strength complements Moronao's administrative and strategic talents, allowing the brothers to serve Takauji in different but mutually reinforcing ways.

During the later wars between the Ashikaga and the imperial forces, Moroyasu takes increasingly important commands and fights against armies attempting to break Takauji's control. His brutal effectiveness makes him one of the Ashikaga side's most dangerous field commanders.

Moronao Kouno is Moroyasu's older brother. The two serve the Ashikaga together, with Moroyasu's aggressive temperament contrasting with Moronao's colder and more calculating disposition.

Takauji Ashikaga is Moroyasu's lord and the central figure whose rise the Kouno brothers support.

Tadayoshi Ashikaga is another senior figure within the Ashikaga leadership with whom Moroyasu operates during the family's campaigns.

Tokiyuki Houjou belongs to the Houjou family whose restoration efforts eventually bring its surviving warriors into conflict with the Ashikaga forces supported by Moroyasu.
