Monev the Gale

Monev is violent and initially confident in the extraordinary physical power created by years of training. He treats the destruction around him as acceptable so long as it brings him closer to Vash.

That confidence erodes once Vash stops behaving like the harmless fool suggested by his usual demeanor. Monev becomes frightened when confronted with the anger his indiscriminate violence provokes.

He is also ultimately a victim of the organization that created him. His fear of failure reveals that the Gung-Ho Guns' hierarchy offers little tolerance for an assassin who cannot complete an assignment.

Monev possesses enormous physical strength and speed developed through prolonged training. His powered battle suit further increases his combat effectiveness and allows him to carry weaponry that would be impractical for an ordinary gunman.

His primary weapons are two high-powered automatic guns mounted on his arms and supplied through equipment on his back. Their rate of fire and destructive force allow him to shred buildings and saturate large areas with bullets.

He also carries additional heavy weapons, including a massive rotary gun powerful enough to penetrate heavily reinforced structures. Despite this firepower, Vash's precision eventually allows him to dismantle Monev's offensive capability without killing him.

Monev is the first Gung-Ho Gun to receive an extended direct battle against Vash in the 1998 anime. Legato Bluesummers sends him into Augusta as part of the campaign designed to torment Vash rather than merely collect his bounty.

Monev's indiscriminate attack kills civilians and pushes Vash into a level of visible rage rarely seen earlier in the series. Vash systematically destroys Monev's weapons and brings him completely under his control.

Vash ultimately refuses to kill Monev despite his fury. Monev's failure is not forgiven by the Gung-Ho Guns, however; he and Dominique are subsequently executed and displayed as a warning about the consequences of failing Knives and Legato.

Vash the Stampede is Monev's assigned target. Their battle pushes Vash close to violating the pacifist principles he normally maintains.

Legato Bluesummers sends Monev against Vash as part of the Gung-Ho Guns' campaign.

Dominique the Cyclops is another Gung-Ho Gun operating during the same phase of the campaign. Both suffer lethal consequences after failing to defeat Vash.
