Dominique the Cyclops

Dominique is controlled, confident and methodical. She trusts the advantage provided by the Demon's Eye and initially approaches her confrontation with Vash with the certainty of an assassin accustomed to overwhelming opponents before they understand what is happening.

She is not as theatrical as several other Gung-Ho Guns. Her manner is restrained, and she concentrates on efficiently exploiting the sensory weakness created by her ability.

Dominique's confidence weakens once Vash begins adapting to the Demon's Eye, revealing how heavily her fighting style depends on opponents being unable to understand its mechanism.

Dominique's Demon's Eye creates the illusion that she can move instantaneously. When she exposes the concealed eye, she disrupts her opponent's sensory processing for a fraction of a second. During that missing interval she physically changes position, causing the victim to perceive her as having effectively teleported.

The appearance of the eye differs between continuities. The manga depicts it with a reptilian quality, while the 1998 anime gives it a striking red appearance.

Vash eventually counters the technique by using pain to anchor his awareness, biting his tongue so that the continuous sensation helps him detect the gaps created by Dominique's sensory interference.

Dominique confronts Vash during the Gung-Ho Guns' campaign orchestrated by Legato Bluesummers. Her battle follows the slaughter of members of the Roderick Thieves and demonstrates that Vash's new enemies possess abilities far beyond those of ordinary bounty hunters.

The fight initially appears hopeless because Vash cannot track Dominique's movement. Once he deduces that she is manipulating perception rather than teleporting, he develops a countermeasure and defeats her without abandoning his refusal to kill.

After her defeat, Dominique takes her own life rather than face the consequences of failing the Gung-Ho Guns.

Vash the Stampede is Dominique's assigned target. His ability to understand and overcome the Demon's Eye turns what initially appears to be an overwhelming advantage against her.

Legato Bluesummers directs the Gung-Ho Guns' operations against Vash and places Dominique within the campaign designed to torment him.
