Mitani

Mitani is blunt, aggressive and contemptuous of people he dislikes. Even in the studio, he speaks harshly about colleagues and the tangled personal relationships around Matsuo's assistants.

The outbreak gives that aggression a more dangerous outlet. Where Hideo hesitates and continually questions what he is seeing, Mitani is quicker to accept violence as necessary once people around them begin transforming.

His decisiveness can help in immediate danger, but it also makes him capable of acting on personal hostility when ordinary consequences disappear.

Mitani has no established martial-arts training or anomalous abilities.

He is nevertheless willing to use improvised weapons and lethal force against ZQN once the outbreak reaches the studio. His readiness to act contrasts with Hideo's initial shock and hesitation.

As a manga assistant, he also possesses the professional drawing and production skills required to work in Matsuo's studio, although these provide little practical advantage once Tokyo collapses.

Mitani is part of Hideo's workplace immediately before the outbreak becomes undeniable. The infection reaches Matsuo's studio, forcing the assistants to confront transformed people at close range.

Mitani and Hideo then attempt to flee Tokyo together as transport systems and streets collapse into panic.

Mitani's escape with Hideo is short-lived. His violent decisions during the studio crisis and the chaos outside show how rapidly personal grudges and survival violence become intertwined once normal social restraints disappear.

Hideo Suzuki is Mitani's co-worker and temporary escape companion when the outbreak overwhelms Tokyo.

Matsuo employs Mitani and Hideo Suzuki as manga assistants.

Mitani's other studio relationships are marked by hostility and distrust, particularly as the outbreak exposes existing affairs and resentments among Matsuo's staff.
