Personality
Personality
Mei is theatrical, confident and deliberately deceptive. He and Kyuu coordinate nearly everything they do, from their elaborate entrance to the riddles and tricks they use against challengers.
The brothers take particular pleasure in confusing opponents. Their underground arena is constructed to place challengers at a psychological disadvantage, and even the supposed choice of escape routes after their duel contains another trick.
Mei's confidence comes largely from teamwork. He rarely functions independently from Kyuu, and their dueling style depends upon each brother understanding and supporting the other's strategy.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Mei and Kyuu use complementary Labyrinth Decks designed specifically for Tag Duels. Labyrinth Wall transforms the field into a maze through which monsters must move, changing the duel into something resembling a board game.
Their principal objective is assembling Gate Guardian through Sanga of the Thunder, Kazejin and Suijin. The brothers divide these resources between themselves and coordinate their cards to create combinations that would be much harder for either duelist to perform alone.
Their greatest strength is synchronization. They anticipate each other's actions, divide responsibilities between their Decks and use the unusual labyrinth rules more effectively than opponents encountering the format for the first time.
Story Role
Story Role
Mei and Kyuu are the final Eliminators encountered by Yugi's group in the underground portions of Duelist Kingdom. They prevent the group from simply continuing toward Pegasus's castle and demand a Tag Duel.
Yugi partners with Jonouchi against the brothers. The Labyrinth field initially gives Mei and Kyuu a considerable advantage, particularly as they work toward Gate Guardian while forcing their opponents to navigate the maze.
After the duel, the brothers present another challenge involving two doors, claiming that only one provides a safe exit. Yugi recognizes that their explanation is itself a trick and devises a method to expose their attempt to control which door leads outside.
The anime later brings the brothers back in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, where their reputation as veteran Tag Duelists leads to another coordinated challenge.
