Maya is compassionate, courageous, and strongly committed to protecting her home. She treats Saga with kindness after his arrival and helps him regain a sense of purpose after the loss of his sword arm.

Her compassion does not prevent her from acting against threats to Asuka Island, even when those threats involve someone she personally cares about.

Maya has no Devil Fruit or Haki.

Izaya is Maya's grandmother and a keeper of Asuka Island's traditions.

Saga is Maya's close friend and a person she cares deeply about after helping him recover from his injuries and despair. Roronoa Zoro becomes involved because of his own past friendship with Saga.
