Personality
Personality
Matsukaze is formal, disciplined, loyal, and strongly guided by the values of a retainer. He speaks and behaves with considerably more ceremony than most of the Kingdom of Science, reflecting the society in which he originally lived.
Duty matters enormously to him. Once Matsukaze identifies someone he believes deserves his protection, he approaches that responsibility with almost excessive seriousness.
He is not humorless, but his straightforward honor frequently collides with Ginro's cowardice, selfish schemes, and complete lack of the dignity Matsukaze expects from a master.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Matsukaze is an expert close-combat warrior trained in swordsmanship. He demonstrates excellent reflexes, balance, timing, and control with bladed weapons and practice swords.
His fighting ability is substantially above that of most ordinary Ishigami Village residents. His technique attracts the attention of elite fighters such as Tsukasa Shishio, who can immediately recognize that Matsukaze is using genuine martial training rather than simply swinging a weapon with brute strength.
Matsukaze is also capable of operating effectively in dangerous group combat. He lacks the overwhelming raw power of Tsukasa or Kohaku, but compensates with technical discipline and experience as a trained warrior.
His memories are another important asset. Matsukaze remembers an earlier attack involving petrification devices and deliberately preserves information about their shape, giving the Kingdom of Science evidence about the history of the Medusa technology.
Story Role
Story Role
Matsukaze initially appears as one of the petrified people recovered from Treasure Island. Once revived, he sees Ginro and reacts with immediate devotion because Ginro strongly resembles the master Matsukaze served in his own era.
He explains that he lived on the island generations earlier, when numerous petrification devices suddenly fell from the sky. Realizing the danger, Matsukaze carved the devices' distinctive shape into his own arm as he was being petrified so that future people could learn what had happened.
The account gives Senku's group vital historical information about the Petrification Kingdom and the existence of multiple Medusas.
After joining the Kingdom of Science, Matsukaze accompanies Ginro as his self-appointed bodyguard and contributes his swordsmanship during later conflicts.
During the confrontation with Stanley's forces, Matsukaze fights as part of the Kingdom of Science's defensive group and remains committed to protecting Ginro despite the enormous technological disadvantage facing them.
Relationships
Relationships
Ginro becomes Matsukaze's new master because of his resemblance to the lord Matsukaze served centuries earlier. The mismatch between Matsukaze's idealized loyalty and Ginro's actual personality becomes a recurring source of comedy.
Tsukasa Shishio recognizes Matsukaze's genuine combat training and tests his skill after his revival.
Senku Ishigami revives Matsukaze's era of activity and uses the warrior's testimony to better understand the history of the petrification devices.
Kohaku becomes a fellow member of the Kingdom of Science's combat forces and shares Matsukaze's willingness to place herself in danger for the group.
