Masurao Sujimori

Masurao is loud, physically imposing and capable of intimidating students without deliberately trying to do so. His appearance and history as a mercenary make him look better suited to a battlefield than a classroom, yet he functions comfortably as a teacher at Hokusai High.

His most obvious soft spot is cats. Masurao becomes openly affectionate whenever he encounters Shirogane's reduced form, enthusiastically embracing him despite Shirogane's protests.

He also takes his responsibilities as a teacher seriously enough to correct inappropriate student behavior. Early in Matsuri's adjustment to living as a girl, Masurao catches him entering the boys' restroom out of old habit and immediately removes him.

Masurao possesses extraordinary physical strength and a heavily muscled body developed through his past as a mercenary. His battlefield experience distinguishes him sharply from the otherwise ordinary teachers at Hokusai High.

His origin is itself supernatural: Masurao was born from the powerful thoughts and emotions of soldiers on the battlefield. Despite living and working as a human teacher, this background connects him directly to the same principle by which human emotions can give rise to supernatural phenomena.

He does not fight through the exorcist-ninja techniques used by Matsuri or Soga. His abilities are centered on exceptional physical power and the experience accumulated through his former profession.

Masurao appears early in Matsuri's new school life, catching the transformed exorcist entering the boys' restroom. He subsequently becomes a recurring faculty presence at Hokusai High.

His fondness for Shirogane produces an ongoing gag because Masurao sees an adorable cat where the audience knows there is an immensely proud supernatural king. Shirogane has little ability to preserve his dignity once the much larger teacher decides to cuddle him.

Chapter 80 expands Masurao beyond his role as an eccentric teacher and reveals more of the unusual circumstances behind his existence. His connection to battlefields and accumulated human thoughts places him closer to the supernatural world than his early appearances suggest.

Matsuri Kazamaki is one of Masurao's students. Their early interactions include Masurao correcting Matsuri when years of living as a boy cause him to forget the social expectations attached to his transformed body.

Suzu Kanade is another Hokusai High student under Masurao's supervision.

Shirogane is the object of Masurao's enthusiastic love of cats. Masurao repeatedly treats him like an ordinary pet despite the ayakashi king's anger and embarrassment.

Garaku Utagawa is another supernatural figure connected with Hokusai High and becomes acquainted with Masurao through their overlapping involvement around the school.
