Masako is worried, protective, and increasingly distrustful of the government because of the unexplained disappearance of her husband.

Her perspective gives Sāra direct evidence that the prosperity presented by Anrokuzan does not match the lives of ordinary citizens.

Masako is a civilian and has no established shinobi or combat techniques.

Masako is among the women and children whose relatives have disappeared into Anrokuzan's hidden workforce. Her situation helps expose the reality beneath Rōran's public appearance.

She is ultimately part of the civilian population that must be protected as the conflict surrounding the Ryūmyaku and puppet army escalates.

Saara is Masako's queen, and Masako's circumstances help Sāra understand the abuse occurring under her government. Mukade, acting as Anrokuzan, is responsible for the forced-labor system affecting Masako's family.
