Mareyo Oomaeda

Mareyo is affectionate, trusting and openly attached to Marechiyo. She asks him to play with her and cries when his military responsibilities prevent him from doing so.

She is less receptive to her other brother’s attention, finding Marejirousaburou’s books unpleasant. Her reactions are direct and childlike rather than calculated.

Mareyo is not identified as a Soul Reaper and displays no combat or spiritual technique. She is a civilian member of the Oomaeda family.

Licensed novel material says Oomaeda children traditionally enter the Onmitsukidō and that Mareyo hopes to join the Fourth Division, but no main-story scene shows her beginning such training.

Mareyo first appears in official comedy material before entering the main manga during the Wandenreich invasion. Marechiyo explains that he must leave the family estate because his duty as a Gotei 13 officer is to protect her, their relatives and Seireitei.

BG9 attacks Mareyo to force Marechiyo to answer questions, seriously wounding her in the manga. Marechiyo carries her to safety with his injured captain, and Momo Hinamori treats her wounds. The television adaptation changes the attack so Marechiyo intercepts it.

Marechiyo Oomaeda is Mareyo’s older brother and the sibling she most openly admires. Marenoshin Oomaeda and Mareka Oomaeda are her parents; Maremi Oomaeda and Marejirousaburou Oomaeda are her other siblings.

BG9 attacks her to coerce Marechiyo. Momo Hinamori later heals her injuries, while Soi Fon is the captain Marechiyo is also carrying to safety.
