Lurald

Lurald has no established personality independent of his controller. His expressions, speech and apparently purposeful behavior are products of Leonof's manipulation rather than evidence of an autonomous consciousness.

That artificial humanity is central to his usefulness. Leonof's craftsmanship allows Lurald to interact with people without immediately exposing himself as a puppet, making him particularly effective for covert observation.

Lurald is a highly realistic mechanical puppet remotely operated by Leonof. His construction reproduces human appearance and movement closely enough that observers can mistake him for a living person.

He carries a rifle and can use it while under Leonof's control. His artificial body also lacks many of the physical vulnerabilities that an opponent would normally expect when confronting a human gunman.

His most important capability is ultimately deception: Leonof can place what appears to be another person inside a situation while remaining elsewhere.

Lurald appears during "Hang Fire," as the longstanding feud between the Fris and Polo families erupts in New Oregon. Benson seeks retaliation against the Polos, bringing Vash the Stampede into another attempt to prevent a cycle of revenge.

After the immediate crisis has ended, Leonof retrieves Lurald into a carrying case outside New Oregon, revealing that the apparent man was one of his puppets. Leonof has been monitoring Vash and reports that he is moving again.

Lurald remains part of Leonof's puppet arsenal afterward, and versions of the character also appear in Trigun Maximum.

Leonof the Puppet-Master is Lurald's puppeteer. Everything Lurald appears to say or do independently is actually controlled by Leonof.

Vash the Stampede is the larger target of Leonof's surveillance when Lurald is deployed.

Benson and Slader Polo are central figures in the New Oregon feud during which Lurald operates.
