Liza

Liza is grieving and emotionally vulnerable when Allen Walker meets her, but she retains a strong sense of what her husband meant to her. She does not believe that replacing grief with an artificial return would truly restore their life together.

Allen's own experience with loss gives their conversations unusual weight. Rather than simply being rescued by him, Liza recognizes something in his decision to carry memories of the dead forward.

Liza is an ordinary human and possesses no Innocence or supernatural powers.

Her resistance to manipulation is emotional rather than physical. When offered the possibility of restoring the person she lost, she is capable of rejecting the bargain.

Liza first appears in D.Gray-man: Reverse. Allen Walker meets her at a cemetery while she is mourning Lenny, and the two speak about grief and continuing to live after losing someone important.

A doctor later attempts to manipulate Liza into accepting the Millennium Earl's offer of resurrection. She refuses, and Allen intervenes when the situation turns dangerous.

The 2006 anime adapts the material with changes to the timing and circumstances surrounding Lenny.

Lenny is Liza's husband and the person whose loss leaves her grieving when she meets Allen.

Allen Walker sympathizes with Liza through his own experience of bereavement and helps protect her when others try to exploit her grief.
