Liam Diethel

Liam is caring, principled and patient with his son. He treats Lyserg as an apprentice as well as a child, creating challenges that encourage him to develop his own investigative ability rather than simply giving him answers.

He is also independent-minded. His reputation and supernatural ability could make him valuable to powerful shamans, but Liam is primarily interested in his family and detective work rather than larger struggles for power.

Liam is a highly accomplished dowser and detective. He uses a crystal pendulum to locate people and objects, combining the technique with the spiritual assistance of Morphin. His success makes him internationally famous as an investigator.

Morphin is a Seirei-class poppy spirit passed down through generations of the Diethel family. Liam works with her before eventually entrusting her to Lyserg.

His Furyoku is 1,500. Although modest compared with the elite Shaman Fight contestants, his abilities are specialized for investigation rather than tournament combat.

Liam lives in London with his wife Jane Diethel and their son Lyserg. He teaches Lyserg dowsing and prepares him to inherit Morphin, giving the boy a practical test on his sixth birthday.

Liam's detective work also leads him near dangerous criminal activity, including an investigation connected with Oknox. His reputation eventually attracts Hao's attention.

Hao approaches Liam and asks him to assist in the coming Shaman Fight. Liam refuses, choosing his family over involvement with Hao. Hao burns the Diethel home with Liam and Jane inside, and Lyserg returns to discover his parents' bodies. Their murder becomes the central reason Lyserg pursues Hao.

Near the end of the Shaman Fight, Liam and Jane appear among the souls within the Great Spirit. Liam is pleased by the person Lyserg has become and by the friendships his son has formed.

Lyserg Diethel is Liam's son and pupil. Liam teaches him dowsing and passes Morphin to him.

Jane Diethel is Liam's wife and Lyserg's mother. The couple live together in London and raise their son there.

Morphin is the Diethel family's inherited spirit and Liam's Guardian Ghost before she passes to Lyserg.

Hao Asakura approaches Liam seeking his cooperation and kills Liam and Jane after Liam refuses.

Oknox is connected to one of Liam's investigations; Liam comes close to uncovering his criminal activities before Lyserg later encounters the same man.
