Lala

Lala is devoted, lonely and fiercely protective of Guzol. Centuries of abandonment leave her distrustful of humans, particularly after several children who encounter her react violently to her frightening appearance. Guzol is different: when offered a song, he simply asks her to sing.

That acceptance becomes the foundation of Lala's existence. She does not care about preserving herself indefinitely and is willing to surrender the Innocence sustaining her once she has fulfilled her promise to remain with Guzol. When Allen Walker discovers her identity, however, fear that he will separate them makes her attack him before she agrees to explain herself.

Lala is an artificial doll rather than an Exorcist. A fragment of Innocence embedded in her functions as her heart, giving the otherwise mechanical body independent movement and allowing her to continue functioning for centuries.

Her body possesses strength beyond that of an ordinary human. When threatened, she can lift and throw large stone pillars at Allen. Her durability and longevity likewise come from her artificial construction and the Innocence sustaining her.

Lala's original purpose was singing, and her songs remain central to her identity. She was one of the singing dolls created to entertain Mater's inhabitants before the city was abandoned.

Lala is encountered during Allen Walker and Yu Kanda's mission to Mater, where the Black Order has detected Innocence. She and Guzol initially conceal which of them carries it so that the Exorcists cannot immediately separate them.

Allen discovers that Lala is the doll and hears why she refuses to relinquish her heart. Guzol has little time remaining, and Lala wants only to stay with him until the end. Allen accepts her request, while Kanda argues that an Exorcist's responsibility is to retrieve the Innocence before the nearby Akuma can seize it.

An Akuma attacks before their disagreement can be resolved, impaling Lala and Guzol and tearing the Innocence from her body. Allen and Kanda recover it, but restoring the fragment only restarts Lala as an ordinary singing doll without her memories. Guzol asks her to sing and dies while listening. Lala continues singing beside him for three days before her body finally stops, briefly regaining herself long enough to thank Allen for allowing her to fulfill their promise.

Guzol is Lala's companion of roughly eighty years and the person around whom her remaining purpose revolves. He accepts her appearance when he first encounters her as a child and asks her to sing rather than attacking or fleeing. Lala's final wish is fulfilled when she remains beside Guzol until his death and sings for him until her own body stops functioning.

Allen Walker initially comes to retrieve the Innocence inside Lala. After hearing her story, he agrees to wait until she has fulfilled her promise to Guzol. Allen remains in Mater for three days after Guzol's death rather than interrupting Lala's final song.

Yu Kanda opposes Allen's decision to wait, arguing that their duty as Exorcists must take precedence over Lala's wishes.
