Kurisu Makise

Kurisu is intelligent, skeptical and fiercely protective of her credibility as a scientist. She challenges extraordinary claims until evidence supports them and frequently clashes with Okabe's theatrical declarations, especially when he assigns her unwanted nicknames such as Christina or Assistant.

Beneath her composed professional image, Kurisu is intensely curious. Once the PhoneWave produces results she cannot dismiss, she commits herself to understanding it. She also has a hidden familiarity with internet culture and @channel that she becomes embarrassed about when Daru or Okabe notices it.

Kurisu struggles with emotional vulnerability. Her academic success and difficult experiences with other researchers have made her defensive about appearing weak, but her time in the laboratory gradually reveals a warmer and more playful side.

Kurisu is a prodigious neuroscientist with expertise extending into physics and the mechanisms of memory. Her academic work at Viktor Chondria University has already attracted attention despite her age.

Within the Future Gadget Laboratory, she provides the theoretical foundation needed to understand the PhoneWave's effects. Her knowledge of neuroscience becomes particularly important when the group attempts to compress and transmit human memories.

She has no supernatural combat abilities, but her intellect is fundamental to the laboratory's time-travel research. The Time Leap Machine depends heavily on her understanding of memory and brain function.

Kurisu meets Okabe at Radio Kaikan shortly before the Future Gadget Laboratory discovers that its PhoneWave can send information into the past. Initially skeptical, she joins the lab after examining the evidence and becomes one of the central researchers investigating D-Mails.

Her relationship with Okabe develops alongside their experiments as changing world lines produce consequences neither anticipated. In the Alpha world lines, Kurisu helps Okabe construct the Time Leap Machine and eventually accepts the necessity of undoing the D-Mails even though reaching the Beta attractor field means returning to a world line where she is destined to die.

The final effort to reach the Steins Gate world line centers on saving Kurisu without allowing her time-travel thesis to trigger World War III. Okabe ultimately deceives his past self into believing she has died while actually preserving her life, allowing both Kurisu and Mayuri to survive on the Steins Gate world line.

Rintarou Okabe begins as an irritating self-proclaimed mad scientist whom Kurisu constantly challenges. Their collaboration develops into deep mutual trust and eventually romantic love.

Itaru Hashida works with Kurisu on the laboratory's time-travel technology, supplying programming and engineering expertise that complements her scientific knowledge.

Mayuri Shiina welcomes Kurisu into the lab and becomes one of the friends whose happiness Kurisu values.

Shouichi Makise is Kurisu's father. Their shared interest in time travel becomes a source of deep conflict, and his jealousy of Kurisu's achievements culminates in his attempt to steal her time-travel thesis.

Maho Hiyajou is Kurisu's senior colleague and close friend at Viktor Chondria University. Kurisu's exceptional ability inspires both affection and professional insecurity in Maho.
