Komaki Nakao

Komaki is gentle and compassionate but capable of firmly challenging someone she loves. She does not simply agree with Kakeru when his emotions lead him toward an unfair judgment.

Her response to grief demonstrates a strong sense of empathy. Komaki rejects the idea that another person's suffering somehow becomes invalid because her own circumstances are worse.

She is also fond of meat, a trait Kakeru turns into the affectionate nickname "Meat Angel."

Komaki has no supernatural abilities and is not connected to the Souma curse.

No specialized athletic, academic or professional skills are established for her. Her role remains focused on her relationship with Kakeru and the personal history connecting them to Tooru.

Komaki is introduced through Kakeru's explanation of a painful incident from before he became close to Yuki. Her experience becomes central to Kakeru recognizing a serious failure in his own behavior.

Komaki's father and Kyoko Honda die in the same traffic accident. Seeing Komaki's grief, Kakeru becomes angry that Tooru appears to be receiving sympathy while Komaki is also suffering and confronts Tooru at Kyoko's funeral.

Komaki condemns what he did, explaining that she cannot feel better simply because someone else supposedly has things easier. Her reaction becomes an important lesson in empathy for Kakeru.

Kakeru Manabe is Komaki's boyfriend from middle school onward. She loves Kakeru Manabe but does not hesitate to tell him when his behavior has hurt someone.

Tooru Honda is indirectly connected to Komaki through the traffic accident involving their parents. Komaki rejects Kakeru's attempt to treat their grief as a contest.

Kyoko Honda is connected to Komaki through the same fatal traffic accident that involves Komaki's father.
