Kobayashi

Kobayashi approaches the search for the seven balls with the determination expected of a heroic adventurer. His behavior follows the broad template of Yamcha from Dragon Ball, although the story gives him little independent characterization beyond his participation in the parody.

He is capable of becoming distracted by the bizarre wording surrounding the magical objects. When the group discovers that the balls they have collected are not the objects they expected, Kobayashi quickly redirects his wish toward something considerably less heroic.

Kobayashi's individual fighting abilities are not developed in detail. His visual and narrative role references Yamcha, but Gintama does not establish a corresponding set of named martial-arts techniques for him.

He participates in the quest across Hamek alongside other Dragon Ball-inspired figures. No reliable basis is given for assigning him the abilities of the character he parodies, so those powers are not part of his established Gintama profile.

Kobayashi appears during Toushirou Hijikata's increasingly surreal search for cigarettes after smoking restrictions make obtaining tobacco almost impossible. The journey eventually becomes a direct parody of Dragon Ball's Namek storyline on Planet Hamek.

Within the parody, Kobayashi and his companions seek seven balls in the hope of summoning a dragon and reviving Grillin. The terminology surrounding the quest becomes crucial when they discover they have been collecting the wrong kind of balls.

After realizing that the seven objects summon the Dripping Wet Dragon rather than the dragon they expected, Kobayashi abandons the plan to revive Grillin and instead asks the dragon for "dripping wet panties."

Grillin is the companion whose revival initially provides the objective for Kobayashi's search. Kobayashi ultimately abandons that objective when the wrong dragon is summoned and uses the available wish for himself instead.

Toushirou Hijikata's search for cigarettes provides the larger framing for the Hamek parody in which Kobayashi appears.

Breeza is the Frieza-inspired enemy responsible for devastating Hamek during the same storyline, although Kobayashi's role does not develop into a substantial personal relationship with him.
