Kirin

Kirin is disciplined, observant and accustomed to military responsibility. His long service beside Mukuro gives him an unusually close understanding of her temperament, including fluctuations in her emotional state that other subordinates might overlook.

He also displays professional pride. His position is not merely ceremonial: he regards himself as an experienced martial artist and authority on demonic techniques, and he expects discipline from the demons working alongside him.

Despite being displaced from his old position, Kirin is capable of cooperating with former rivals when circumstances require it.

Kirin is a Lower S-Class demon and one of the strongest subordinates serving any of the Three Kings. The manga assigns him a demon-energy value of 89,500, considerably above the figures given to Hokushin and Shachi at the same point.

He is described as an expert in demonic arts, although the original story gives only limited demonstrations of his personal combat techniques. His rank, experience and energy level establish him as an elite fighter by Demon World standards.

Kirin also possesses the general speed, strength, durability and energy manipulation associated with high-ranking demons.

Kirin initially functions as Mukuro's second-in-command and is discussed during the strategic assessment of the Three Kings' military forces. His presence demonstrates that Mukuro commands powerful individual warriors in addition to possessing enormous personal strength.

Hiei eventually occupies the position beside Mukuro that Kirin had held for approximately 250 years. Kirin nevertheless remains involved with Mukuro's forces and enters the Demon World Tournament when Yusuke's proposal replaces the impending territorial war.

After the tournament, Kirin becomes part of the Demon World patrol system established under the new political order. He works alongside Hiei rather than continuing the old rivalry between the kings' armies.

Mukuro is Kirin's longtime ruler. He serves as her right-hand man for roughly 250 years and understands her moods unusually well.

Hiei eventually replaces Kirin as Mukuro's closest subordinate. The two later serve within the same Demon World patrol system.

Hokushin and Shachi occupy comparable senior positions under the other two kings, making them Kirin's counterparts in the three competing governments.

Yusuke Urameshi proposes the tournament that transforms the political system under which Kirin has spent centuries serving.
