Kibano

Kibano is serious about martial arts and approaches Genkai's tournament as a genuine test of ability. He is confident in his physical conditioning but does not pretend to possess spiritual sensitivity that he lacks.

That self-awareness leads him to compensate through training and equipment. Rather than depending on sight and hearing, he deliberately suppresses ordinary senses to sharpen his awareness of movement around him.

Kibano is aggressive once combat begins but does not display the malicious behavior associated with competitors such as Rando.

Kibano is a skilled close-range martial artist with exceptional muscular control. He can dramatically enlarge the muscles in his arms, increasing the force of his physical attacks.

His distinctive helmet blocks his sight, hearing and smell. By removing those distractions, Kibano concentrates on subtle atmospheric changes and can track an opponent's movement without conventional sensory information.

This method also creates an unusual problem for Yusuke: hiding in darkness does little against an opponent who is not using his eyes in the first place.

Kibano participates in the competition organized to select Genkai's successor. After passing the initial tests, he faces Yusuke in a darkened arena.

Kibano's sensory technique initially gives him the advantage because Yusuke cannot simply hide from him. Yusuke eventually notices Genkai's discarded cigarette and attaches it to Kibano, using its glowing tip as a target in the darkness.

Yusuke fires his Spirit Gun at the visible cigarette and strikes Kibano, winning the match and advancing through the tournament.

Genkai organizes the tournament Kibano enters in hopes of receiving her spiritual techniques.

Yusuke Urameshi is Kibano's opponent during the combat stage and defeats him through an improvised use of the Spirit Gun.

Rando participates in the same tournament while secretly seeking Genkai's techniques for himself.
