Personality
Personality
Kishimoto is insecure, gentle and emotionally vulnerable when she enters Gantz. Years of pressure from her mother have damaged her confidence, and she initially struggles to assert herself around stronger personalities.
Her attraction to Katou grows from his kindness rather than physical bravado. She admires his instinct to protect people and becomes increasingly willing to put herself in danger for him.
Kishimoto also becomes more capable over successive missions. Although never as naturally aggressive as Kurono, she learns to use the suit and weapons and begins acting decisively when someone she cares about is threatened.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Kishimoto has no supernatural abilities but gains enhanced strength, speed and durability while wearing the Gantz suit.
She learns to use the standard firearms available to the Tokyo hunters and participates actively in combat after initially depending on others for protection.
Her greatest combat limitation is inexperience. She does not possess Kurono's adaptability or Katou's physical confidence, but repeated missions make her considerably more functional under pressure.
Story Role
Story Role
Kishimoto enters during the first mission and becomes part of the early emotional triangle involving Kurono and Katou. After the Onion Alien hunt, she attempts to return to her ordinary home.
There she discovers that the original Kishimoto survived the suicide attempt. Gantz reconstructed a duplicate because it recorded her while she was clinically dead, leaving the Gantz version unable to resume her previous identity and forcing her to find somewhere else to live.
During the Buddhist Temple mission, Kishimoto's feelings for Katou culminate in her placing herself between him and a lethal attack. She is killed protecting him, and although both Kurono and Katou later consider reviving her, the Gantz copy is never restored.
Relationships
Relationships
Masaru Katou is Kishimoto's primary romantic interest. She is drawn to Masaru Katou's compassion and ultimately sacrifices herself to protect him during the Buddhist Temple mission.
Kei Kurono is strongly attracted to Kishimoto and allows her to stay at his apartment after she cannot return home. Kishimoto cares about Kei Kurono but does not reciprocate his romantic feelings.
Shiori Kishimoto is Kishimoto's younger sister. Their encounter at the family home helps reveal that another version of Kishimoto still exists outside Gantz.
Mrs. Kishimoto is Kishimoto's mother, whose intense academic expectations contribute heavily to her daughter's insecurity and suicide attempt.
