Karen

Karen is sociable and curious about Meryl's extraordinary experiences outside the office. She reacts to Meryl's months of travel with the mixture of concern and fascination expected from a colleague hearing about life alongside the notorious Humanoid Typhoon.

She also worries that Meryl's dangerous work and repeated unusual assignments are affecting her personal life. Canon otherwise gives Karen little independent characterization.

Karen is an ordinary Bernardelli employee with no established fighting abilities or supernatural powers.

Her work places her within the same insurance organization as Meryl and Milly, but she is depicted in an office setting rather than performing the hazardous fieldwork that defines their assignment involving Vash.

Karen appears in the 1998 anime's "Hang Fire" after Meryl has returned to Bernardelli following the Fifth Moon incident. Her conversation with Meryl helps show how extraordinary Meryl's experiences appear from the perspective of an ordinary coworker.

Karen and fellow employee Mark also help re-establish Bernardelli's everyday workplace before Meryl is drawn back toward events surrounding Vash.

Her role is brief and does not materially affect the larger conflict with the Gung-Ho Guns.
