Kana Souma

Kana is kind, optimistic and emotionally open. She approaches Hatori without being intimidated by his reserved personality and becomes someone around whom he can relax.

Her compassion also makes her vulnerable to guilt. When someone she loves is harmed, Kana instinctively blames herself even when responsibility clearly belongs elsewhere.

Before that trauma overwhelms her, Kana is remembered as someone capable of bringing warmth into Hatori's otherwise highly controlled life.

Kana has no supernatural abilities and is not possessed by a Zodiac spirit.

She works as Hatori's assistant and understands the medical side of his work. Her position also places her close enough to Hatori to learn about the Souma family's supernatural secret.

Her importance is therefore personal rather than supernatural: she is one of the outsiders within the extended family capable of accepting Hatori despite his curse.

Kana's history is revealed when Tooru learns more about Hatori and the cost of his loyalty to the family. Hatori and Kana fall in love while working together and eventually decide that they want to marry.

When Hatori asks Akito for permission, Akito violently attacks him and permanently damages his left eye. Kana becomes convinced that the injury is her fault and deteriorates psychologically under the guilt.

Unable to bear watching her suffer, Hatori erases Kana's memories of their relationship. She later moves forward without remembering their engagement, while Hatori retains the memories alone.

Hatori Souma is Kana's former fiancé. Their engagement ends after Akito's attack leaves Kana psychologically unable to cope, leading Hatori to erase her memories of their romance.

Akito Souma violently opposes Kana's relationship with Hatori. The attack that follows their request to marry becomes the event that destroys their engagement.

Mayuko Shiraki is Kana's close friend. Mayuko suppresses her own feelings for Hatori rather than interfere with Kana's happiness.
