Kaikei

Kaikei is proud of his profession and easily provoked when his craftsmanship is questioned. When Sakata Gintoki implies that truly great craftsmen let their hands rather than their mouths do the talking, Kaikei and Unkei immediately throw themselves into proving him wrong.

He takes stories about exemplary craftsmen extremely seriously. Gintoki exploits this by inventing the legendary carpenter Mokichi and repeatedly attributing inspirational sayings to him.

Kaikei's pride can also turn to discouragement when he realizes he has been manipulated, but his devotion to carpentry ultimately remains stronger than his irritation.

Kaikei is an exceptionally fast and skilled carpenter. Working with Unkei, he reconstructs the badly damaged Yorozuya office overnight.

The brothers can produce increasingly elaborate architecture when challenged. Their work rapidly moves beyond ordinary repair into extravagant construction as Gintoki and Kagura keep demanding additions.

Their building technology and methods are sufficiently advanced that the finished structure ultimately bears little resemblance to the modest office they were originally hired to restore.

After Tatsuma Sakamoto's spacecraft destroys the Yorozuya building, he sends Kaikei and Unkei as an apology and pays them to repair it.

Gintoki initially doubts the tiny carpenters. His criticism motivates them to reconstruct the interior in a single night, but the Yorozuya continue complaining and demanding improvements.

Gintoki invents a master carpenter named Mokichi to manipulate their professional pride. When the brothers discover that Mokichi was fabricated, they prepare to leave Earth.

Gintoki catches them before their departure and convinces them that the spirit represented by Mokichi exists in every carpenter. They return to finish the increasingly absurd reconstruction.

Unkei is Kaikei's brother, partner and fellow delivery carpenter. The two work almost entirely as a team.

Tatsuma Sakamoto hires and sends the brothers to repair the Yorozuya after damaging the building with his spacecraft.

Sakata Gintoki repeatedly challenges Kaikei's pride as a craftsman and invents Mokichi to motivate him.

Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura deal with Kaikei and Unkei during the reconstruction of their workplace.

Otose owns the building that Kaikei and his brother are hired to repair.
