Jiroubou Ikkanzaka

Jiroubou is boastful, condescending and preoccupied with making opponents regret challenging him. He counts aloud while inviting Uryu and Orihime to reconsider their situation, then repeatedly praises his own status as the Seireitei’s supreme projectile expert.

He can recognize an impressive technique, but any compliment is quickly followed by another claim of superiority. His conduct is also markedly cowardly: rather than concentrate on the opponent matching his specialty, he attempts to strike Orihime when she is distracted and targets her again after realizing Uryu is stronger than expected.

As a seated Shinigami, Jiroubou once possessed greater spiritual power than an ordinary division member. He combines considerable physical strength with Shunpo fast enough to move behind Orihime before she notices him.

His Zanpakuto is Tsunzakigarasu, released with the command “Flap Away,” translated in some editions as “Spread Your Wings.” Its blade separates into dozens of small, double-edged projectiles that Jiroubou controls mentally. Their speed makes them difficult for ordinary fighters to follow, and he can generate replacement blades by sheathing and drawing the weapon again.

Uryu destroys the airborne blades with precise Heilig Pfeil and then shoots Jiroubou’s Saketsu and Hakusui, the spiritual points responsible for generating and amplifying reiryoku. The damage permanently removes Jiroubou’s Shinigami powers.

Jiroubou serves as Uryu and Orihime’s first substantial Shinigami opponent after they enter the Seireitei. His opening ambush establishes his lack of restraint, while his projectile-based Zanpakuto creates a direct comparison with Uryu’s Quincy bow.

Uryu outshoots Tsunzakigarasu, prevents Jiroubou from recreating its blades and condemns him for targeting someone who lacks the will to kill. Rather than killing him, Uryu destroys the spiritual source of his powers. The defeat removes Jiroubou from active service and ends his significant participation in the story.

Jidanbo Ikkanzaka — Jiroubou’s older brother and the giant guardian of the Seireitei’s Western Gate.

Uryu Ishida — The Quincy archer who defeats Jiroubou in a contest between ranged weapon specialists and removes his Shinigami abilities.

Orihime Inoue — The less aggressive ryoka whom Jiroubou repeatedly targets, provoking Uryu’s anger.
