Ivanov

Ivanov is courageous enough to continue fighting after organized resistance has effectively collapsed. Alongside Kai, he ventures onto the surface despite the enormous danger posed by Atlas.

He is determined but realistic about the difference between his own abilities and those of a legendary specialist such as Umibouzu.

The story gives Ivanov limited characterization outside his role as one of the planet's remaining defenders.

Ivanov is an armed volunteer fighter capable of confronting the Atlas organisms occupying his planet.

His combat ability is insufficient to defeat the infestation independently, particularly as the black spherical organisms have already overwhelmed the planet's formal military.

He therefore relies on cooperation with Kai and ultimately on Umibouzu's exceptional experience as an alien hunter.

Ivanov appears in the story told around Umibouzu's encounter with Atlas. A distant planet has been devastated by a rapidly spreading alien organism, forcing surviving inhabitants underground.

Ivanov and Kai emerge as volunteer fighters attempting to resist the creatures on the surface. Their efforts place them in extreme danger until Umibouzu arrives.

The encounter establishes the scale of Umibouzu's reputation and abilities by contrasting the desperate local resistance with the veteran hunter's capacity to confront threats that have defeated conventional forces.

Kai is Ivanov's fellow volunteer fighter and closest ally during the Atlas infestation.

Umibouzu arrives on Ivanov's planet as the legendary alien hunter capable of confronting Atlas.
