Hokushin

Hokushin is courteous, composed and intensely loyal to Raizen. He communicates with Yusuke more patiently than some of Raizen's other followers and generally prefers explanation to unnecessary confrontation.

His loyalty does not make him blindly obedient. Hokushin understands the deteriorating political position of Raizen's territory and recognizes that Yusuke must develop quickly if he is to become capable of carrying its responsibilities.

He also has confidence in his own experience. Even against opponents whose raw energy may exceed his, Hokushin relies on technique, timing and tactical judgment.

Hokushin possesses S-Class demonic power in the anime, while the manga's numerical system initially places his displayed energy lower because he and his companions suppress themselves while entering the Human World.

His signature ability is extreme bodily flexibility. Hokushin can stretch and deform his body into long, rope-like forms, wrapping himself around an opponent to immobilize them.

He is also an accomplished martial artist with excellent speed, reflexes and defensive technique. His skill allows him to exploit openings rather than relying exclusively on energy output.

Hokushin is proficient at suppressing his demon energy, an important ability when traveling through barriers that restrict powerful demons.

Hokushin travels to the Human World with Touou and Seitei to deliver Raizen's summons to Yusuke. He explains the conflict among the Three Kings and the precarious condition of Raizen's territory.

After Yusuke enters Demon World, Hokushin becomes one of his regular sparring partners. He helps prepare Yusuke for the strength required to challenge Raizen and operate among Demon World's elite.

Following Raizen's death, Hokushin remains loyal to Yusuke as his successor. He accompanies him during the political crisis that follows and supports the creation of the Demon World Tournament.

Hokushin enters the tournament himself and defeats Shishiwakamaru, demonstrating that his experience and technique remain dangerous even against opponents with formidable demonic energy.

Raizen is Hokushin's ruler and the person to whom he shows unwavering loyalty for many years.

Yusuke Urameshi becomes Hokushin's training partner and later succeeds Raizen as the central figure commanding his former followers.

Touou is one of Hokushin's fellow monks and accompanies him to the Human World.

Seitei is another of Hokushin's fellow followers of Raizen.

Shishiwakamaru faces Hokushin during the Demon World Tournament and ultimately concedes their match.
