Personality
Personality
Hoi Hoi is generally tame, playful and affectionate. He behaves much more like an ordinary zoo animal than a conscious participant in the deadly competition surrounding him.
His strongest attachment is to Izumi. Hoi Hoi repeatedly hugs and follows him, and the normally detached fighter surprisingly tolerates the panda's attention.
Hoi Hoi is not entirely passive. When circumstances demand it, he proves capable of attacking mission targets and accumulating points.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Hoi Hoi possesses the natural strength and physical capabilities of a giant panda but does not use Gantz weapons in the manner of human hunters.
Despite this disadvantage, he survives multiple missions. During the Nurarihyon mission, Hoi Hoi surprisingly accumulates 40 points, demonstrating that he is capable of killing Gantz targets despite lacking conventional equipment.
His ability to participate also confirms that Gantz can reconstruct non-human animals and register their actions within its scoring system.
Story Role
Story Role
Hoi Hoi enters the Tokyo room with the large group created by the Shinjuku massacre and subsequently accompanies the hunters on missions.
During the Dinosaur Alien mission, Izumi protects him from danger, establishing the unusual bond between the panda and one of the team's least openly affectionate members.
Hoi Hoi continues surviving missions well beyond what might be expected of an unequipped animal and eventually earns a substantial score during the Osaka hunt.
Relationships
Relationships
Shion Izumi is Hoi Hoi's favorite human companion. Hoi Hoi repeatedly hugs and follows Shion Izumi, while Izumi unexpectedly accepts his affection and even protects him during the Dinosaur Alien mission.
Reika Shimohira is another Tokyo hunter shown interacting comfortably with Hoi Hoi.
