Hitomi

Hitomi initially appears to be an ordinary young woman enjoying an amusement-park outing with friends. She does not openly disclose her complicated history with Kishida.

Her ability to maintain a normal demeanor before and immediately after the incident demonstrates considerable preparation and emotional control. Her composure ultimately breaks when Shinichi reconstructs the crime and confronts her with the evidence.

Hitomi is an experienced gymnast. Her flexibility and physical control allow her to perform movements that would be extremely difficult for an ordinary roller-coaster passenger.

Shinichi identifies her athletic background before the crime by noticing characteristic marks associated with gymnastics training. That observation later becomes relevant when determining which passenger could physically have executed the method used during the ride.

Hitomi accompanies her friends to Tropical Land and sits near Reiko on the Mystery Coaster. Kishida and Aiko occupy another row, while Shinichi and Ran ride behind them.

Hitomi is revealed as Kishida's killer. During the dark section of the ride, she slips free of her restraint and uses a wire, hook, and pearl necklace to create a mechanism that catches the track and decapitates him through the coaster's momentum.

She plants a bloodied knife in Aiko's belongings to frame her. Shinichi exposes the deception through the missing necklace, the physical requirements of the murder method, and the unusual horizontal tear marks on Hitomi's face. Hitomi confesses that Kishida was her former boyfriend and that she chose Tropical Land because it was the site of their first date.

Shinichi Kudo identifies Hitomi as the culprit and reconstructs the mechanism she used to kill Kishida.
