Hisshuu Kanoya

Kanoya is aggressive, vindictive and willing to use violence to get what he wants. His methods during the presidential campaign go far beyond ordinary political maneuvering, and losing to Medaka leaves him interested in revenge rather than self-reflection.

He is nevertheless charismatic. Kanoya persuades a large group of students to participate in an armed ambush, demonstrating that he can inspire or pressure people into following his plans.

His major weakness is his judgment of others. He interprets Zenkichi's complaints about Medaka as genuine resentment and fails to understand how deeply loyal Zenkichi actually is to her.

Kanoya has no established Abnormality or supernatural ability. His primary strengths are charisma, organization and his willingness to mobilize other students.

He uses numbers and weapons rather than attempting to challenge Medaka personally on equal terms. His plan depends upon overwhelming her with a coordinated group.

Against Medaka's physical capabilities, however, even a large group of armed ordinary students offers little meaningful advantage.

Kanoya approaches Zenkichi after overhearing him complain about being dragged around by Medaka. Believing he has found someone dissatisfied with the new president, Kanoya explains his plan to attack her.

His attempted recruitment instead gives Zenkichi advance knowledge of the ambush. Kanoya's plot becomes an early demonstration that Zenkichi's complaints about Medaka do not translate into disloyalty.

Medaka defeats Kanoya and the students he gathers against her, ending his immediate attempt at revenge. He later appears among the many former acquaintances involved in Medaka's final school challenges.

Medaka Kurokami defeats Kanoya during the presidential campaign after his methods become violent. His later attack is motivated largely by resentment toward Medaka Kurokami.

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is the person Kanoya mistakenly believes he can recruit against Medaka. Kanoya's inability to understand Zenkichi Hitoyoshi's loyalty contributes directly to the failure of his plan.
