Hidetomo Kajoumaru

Hidetomo is measured, knowledgeable, and patient with junior officers. He excuses his subordinates’ tardiness and treats their questions about the Quincy as opportunities to explain material no longer taught at the Shin’ō Academy.

His view of warfare is notably even-handed. Although he explains why the Shinigami exterminated the Quincy, he refuses to frame the conflict as a simple struggle between justice and evil. Both sides, he says, enter war believing their cause is just.

When the invasion begins, Hidetomo attempts to act despite obvious fear. Jugram Haschwalth recognizes that he is struggling to accept the situation as a genuine life-or-death war.

Hidetomo carries a standard katana-like Zanpakutō with an ornamental guard. Its name, Shikai, and Bankai are never revealed.

His established strength is historical and operational knowledge. He understands the Shinigami’s former designation as Balancers, the reincarnation cycle, and the danger created when Quincy attacks erase Hollows instead of purifying them.

As a seated officer, he commands lower-ranking Thirteenth Division members. The story does not show enough combat to support broader claims about his swordsmanship or Kidō.

Hidetomo encounters Ryūnosuke Yuki and Shino Madarame discussing why the Shinigami and Quincy must fight when both oppose Hollows. He explains the imbalance caused by Quincy extermination techniques and the failed attempts to negotiate before the historical purge.

He later witnesses the Wandenreich’s structures emerge across the Seireitei and encounters Haschwalth during the first invasion. Hidetomo orders him to stop, but the Quincy calmly identifies his fear.

Haschwalth cuts Hidetomo vertically before he can mount an attack. The novel Can’t Fear Your Own World and the anime presentation confirm that the blow kills him.

Jūshirō Ukitake is Hidetomo’s captain and divisional commander.

Ryūnosuke Yuki and Shino Madarame are his junior subordinates. Both respect him, and Shino later remembers him as a valued superior.
