Helen

Helen behaves like an ordinary young child enduring an exhausting trip across No Man's Land. She complains about being hungry and tired alongside Tania, testing the patience of their already weary mother.

She readily accepts Wolfwood's kindness when he shares food with the children. The episode gives Helen little individual characterization beyond her behavior within the family and her vulnerability during the attack on the bus.

Helen is an ordinary human child with no combat abilities or supernatural powers.

Her vulnerability helps establish the stakes of the machine attack. She depends on the adults around her, particularly Vash and Wolfwood, when the passengers are endangered.

Helen travels with her mother and Tania aboard the bus heading toward May City. Wolfwood shares some of his limited food with the two girls after hearing them complain of hunger.

The journey is interrupted by attacks from automated machines. Vash the Stampede and Wolfwood become responsible for protecting the passengers while determining why the machines are attacking.

Helen is safely reunited with her mother and Tania after the crisis, and the family completes its journey to May City.
