Heiwana Kao no Hoshina Tou

He is cheerful, polite and outwardly approachable. His simple, tranquil expression initially makes him seem dramatically less threatening than the hardened warriors surrounding Hoshina.

That impression disappears as soon as fighting becomes likely. He shares the Hoshina warriors' enthusiasm for violent battle and can describe the prospect of being disemboweled or dying with a smile still fixed on his face.

His temperament nevertheless reflects loyalty rather than indiscriminate aggression. He follows Hoshina and shares the group's readiness to place themselves in danger for their lord and territory.

He is an experienced Hoshina warrior capable of participating in serious combat. His harmless appearance should not be confused with weakness; he belongs to a force whose members are accustomed to dangerous fighting.

The series initially uses the contradiction between his appearance and ability as part of the joke surrounding him, rather than introducing him with an elaborate named technique.

Later material identifies the previously unnamed warrior as Yuuki Sanjuurou, a formidable fighter connected to the imperial commander Yuuki Munehiro. This identity is omitted from Quick Facts because it is revealed after his initial appearances.

He first appears among the Hoshina warriors in northern Shinano, initially standing guard while Tokiyuki and his companions become involved with Hoshina's dispute against the provincial government.

The government of Kiyohara Shinano-no-kami places intense pressure on Hoshina's territory, pushing the local warriors toward a confrontation they initially expect to end in honorable death.

Tokiyuki challenges that assumption by encouraging Hoshina's men to survive instead. The peaceful-faced warrior participates in the resulting struggle as part of the force attempting to escape destruction while still resisting the provincial army.

Yasaburo Hoshina is the lord under whom the peaceful-faced warrior initially serves.
