Heisuke Mashimo

Heisuke is emotional, sincere, impulsive, and unusually transparent for someone trained as an assassin. He cries easily, becomes excited over small victories, and is susceptible to discouragement when confronted with his weaknesses. Deception and psychological manipulation are decidedly not his strengths.

His kindness repeatedly overrides professional calculation. He develops attachments quickly and finds it difficult to treat people he knows as disposable targets. This temperament initially contributes to his lack of success within the assassin profession, but it later becomes one of the qualities that makes him compatible with Sakamoto's group.

Heisuke is deeply insecure about being regarded as incompetent. His poor performance outside marksmanship has caused others to dismiss him, and proving that his one exceptional talent has genuine value becomes an important part of his development.

Heisuke is an exceptional sniper. His specialty is calculating and executing ricochet shots, deliberately bouncing bullets from surfaces to reach targets outside his direct line of sight. His spatial awareness and intuitive understanding of bullet trajectories allow him to perform shots that surprise even elite assassins.

His rifle is used in combination with Piisuke, who can assist with reconnaissance and positioning. Heisuke's partnership with the bird gives him additional battlefield information and reinforces his highly unconventional approach to sniping.

Outside shooting, Heisuke is considerably less accomplished. His close-quarters ability, general assassin aptitude, and academic performance are poor compared with specialists such as Sakamoto. The disparity makes his marksmanship even more striking: in his chosen field, he can challenge opponents far above his nominal rank.

His battle with Hyo and Kumanomi becomes a major turning point. Fighting alongside an ORDER member exposes Heisuke to the level occupied by the assassin world's strongest fighters and pushes his marksmanship, resolve, and willingness to risk himself for another person.

Heisuke first attempts to collect Sakamoto's bounty because he desperately needs money. His assassination attempt fails, and his circumstances eventually draw him toward the very people he intended to attack.

He subsequently becomes a regular ally of Sakamoto's group and participates in major conflicts including the assassin exhibition and JCC-related events. His specialist role gives the group long-range support that none of its other early members can replicate.

During the Bangkok conflict, Heisuke becomes closely involved with Hyo and witnesses the battle against Kumanomi. The experience profoundly affects him and gives his later confrontation with Kumanomi a personal dimension beyond the larger conflict with X's organization.

Heisuke's development gradually shifts him from a failed assassin defined by one useful skill into a sniper capable of operating against some of the strongest combatants in the profession.

Taro Sakamoto begins as Heisuke's bounty target but quickly becomes a trusted ally and a standard against which Heisuke measures himself.

Piisuke is Heisuke's parrot, companion, and partner. Their bond is inseparable from Heisuke's identity as a sniper.

Shin Asakura becomes one of Heisuke's closest friends and frequent teammates.

Shaotang Lu is another member of the Sakamoto circle with whom Heisuke develops a friendly relationship.

Hyo becomes an important mentor-like figure during the Bangkok conflict. His willingness to protect Heisuke leaves a lasting impression on the younger sniper.

Kumanomi becomes Heisuke's deeply personal enemy following his experiences alongside Hyo.
