Gerald Gorey

Gorey is vain, insecure, jealous, petty, and intensely concerned with social standing. His senior medical position does not give him the admiration he wants, so Loid's effortless popularity becomes increasingly intolerable.

He is particularly resentful of Loid's relationship with Fiona because Gorey has a one-sided romantic interest in her. Fiona's near-total indifference only intensifies his jealousy when he sees her interacting with Loid.

Gorey is also corrupt. He abuses professional privileges, accepts improper political donations, falsifies reimbursement claims, and engages in numerous smaller dishonest acts around the hospital.

When placed under genuine pressure, his arrogance collapses quickly. Despite behaving vindictively while he believes himself protected by authority, Gorey becomes frightened and submissive when he thinks the State Security Service may arrest him.

Gorey has no supernatural abilities or espionage training. His influence comes from administrative authority, social networking, and his position at Berlint General Hospital.

As Chief Medical Director, he can control access to prestigious patients, affect workplace assignments, and influence the professional standing of subordinate doctors.

He is also capable of deception and bureaucratic manipulation. Gorey's attempt to frame Loid uses planted documents, falsified evidence, and a report to the State Security Service rather than direct confrontation.

These methods make him potentially dangerous within ordinary civilian society even though he would be helpless against the trained spies whose cover identities he unknowingly threatens.

Gorey becomes increasingly irritated by Loid's popularity around Berlint General Hospital. Small incidents that would embarrass another doctor instead make Loid seem more sympathetic, convincing Gorey that his colleague is somehow manipulating everyone.

He attempts several methods of undermining Loid, including forging a romantic letter involving Fiona and withholding high-status patients.

Gorey's most extreme move is contacting the State Security Service and falsely accusing Loid of espionage. This accidentally threatens Operation Strix with exposure, forcing WISE to respond.

Loid, Fiona, and Franky Franklin stage an elaborate counter-operation in which Fiona and Franky impersonate SSS officers. They expose Gorey's fabricated evidence and catalogue his own misconduct before Loid theatrically intervenes on Gorey's behalf.

The result leaves Gorey grateful enough to reduce his immediate hostility, though his envy does not disappear completely.

Loid Forger is Gorey's subordinate and principal workplace rival. Gorey envies his popularity and repeatedly attempts to undermine him.

Fiona Frost is the object of Gorey's unrequited romantic interest. Fiona consistently rejects or ignores his advances.

Franky Franklin helps Loid and Fiona expose Gorey's scheme by posing as a State Security Service officer.
