Erik

Erik receives limited characterization before the attack. He is impatient and increasingly desperate while waiting to use the bus bathroom, providing a mundane comic moment before the journey becomes dangerous.

After being attacked, his behavior is shaped by injury and panic rather than any established hostility toward the other passengers.

Erik is an ordinary human traveler without established combat abilities or supernatural powers.

He is therefore vulnerable to the autonomous machines attacking the bus. His injuries help demonstrate that the machines represent a genuine threat to civilians rather than merely another challenge for Vash.

Erik travels on the bus carrying Vash, Meryl Stryfe, Milly Thompson and Nicholas D. Wolfwood toward May City.

During a stop, a strange machine attacks Erik and wounds his left shoulder. The other passengers initially struggle to understand what has happened, drawing Vash and Wolfwood into investigating the threat.

The incident becomes an early indication that the automated machines surrounding the bus are deliberately attacking travelers.

Vash the Stampede is seated near Erik during the bus journey and responds when Erik is attacked.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood joins Vash in investigating the strange attack on Erik.
