Ellie is talkative, assertive and quick to express her opinions. She can initially appear superficial, but her loyalty to the Lily Five makes her considerably more dependable than her first impression suggests. She is particularly attentive to Milly and is often the first person to defend or assist her.
Before joining the Lily Five, Ellie experienced rejection after her boyfriend refused to accept her stories about ghosts and ended their relationship when her supernatural abilities became apparent. Her experience parallels the other members of the team, all of whom were alienated from ordinary people because they could perceive spirits.

Ellie's Guardian Ghost is Kamaitachi, a pink spirit based on the sickle-weasel yōkai. Her fingernails serve as the medium for her Over Soul.
When Kamaitachi is integrated with her nails, Ellie's hands develop into large claw-like weapons that can extend their reach. The transformation suits her direct fighting style and gives her a close-range weapon without requiring a separate physical implement.

Ellie and Milly first appear while targeting Ryunosuke Umemiya. They retreat after Mikihisa Asakura appears, and later attack Yoh after he emerges from his training in Yomi Cave.
She subsequently travels with the full Lily Five through America, where the girls repeatedly intersect with Yoh's journey. Their early attempts to interfere with his progress gradually give way to a friendlier relationship.
After the Shaman Fight, Ellie and the other Lily Five members establish a flower shop with assistance from Silva and Kalim.
