Eizou Funakubo

Eizou is shaped heavily by what happened to his daughter. He carries the emotional consequences of an older crime into the present-day investigation and has strong reasons to remain interested in the people responsible.

He is familiar with the mountain environment and firearms through his involvement with the local hunting association.

Eizou has practical experience with hunting and firearms. His association membership implies familiarity with weapon handling and the mountainous terrain in which much of the film's investigation unfolds.

These abilities naturally attract police attention once shootings become part of the case, although possessing relevant skills does not itself establish responsibility for the crimes.

Eizou becomes one of the people connected to the old gun-shop robbery investigated during One-eyed Flashback. The robbery's consequences for his family give him an obvious personal stake in the renewed investigation.

As Conan, Kogorou, and the Nagano police reconstruct the eight-year-old case, Maki's history becomes essential to understanding why the events have never truly ended for those affected.

The investigation ultimately distinguishes Eizou's grief and connection to the old case from the separate identities and motives behind the present-day conspiracy.
